Frequently Asked Questions
Will the BMP file be larger than the original TGA?
It depends. Both TGA and BMP can be uncompressed formats. If your TGA file was already uncompressed, the BMP file size will be very similar. If your TGA file used RLE compression (which this tool does not currently parse), the resulting uncompressed BMP file might be larger. Generally, converting between two uncompressed formats like TGA and BMP will not result in significant size changes unless dimensions are altered.
What's the difference between 24-bit and 32-bit BMP?
**24-bit BMP** stores color information for Red, Green, and Blue channels (8 bits each), totaling 24 bits per pixel. It does not support transparency. If your TGA has transparency (32-bit) and you choose 24-bit BMP, transparent areas will be filled with the selected background color. **32-bit BMP** adds an 8-bit Alpha channel to the RGB data, allowing for transparency. If your TGA image is 32-bit and contains transparency, choosing 32-bit BMP will preserve it in the output.
Can I convert animated TGA files to BMP?
No. This tool is designed for static TGA images. If you upload a TGA, it will be converted into a single static BMP. Animated TGA is not a standard format, and BMP also does not natively support animation.
