Why Convert PDF to BMP?
BMP (Bitmap) is an uncompressed image format known for its high fidelity and wide compatibility, especially with older Windows applications. This tool gives you two powerful options:
- Convert Pages to BMP: This mode renders an entire PDF page into a single, high-resolution BMP image. Because BMP is uncompressed, it preserves the maximum amount of detail, making it suitable for archival or further editing where quality is paramount.
- Extract Embedded Images: This mode scans the PDF and pulls out the original image files, then converts them to BMP. This is a great way to get the highest quality version of photos or graphics that have been placed inside the document.
How to Convert PDF to BMP
- Upload PDF File: Drag and drop your PDF, or click to select a file. The tool will load the document and generate page previews.
- Choose Conversion Mode:
- Select "Convert Pages to BMP" to render pages as images.
- Select "Extract Embedded Images" to pull out existing images.
- Select Pages (if converting): If you chose to convert pages, click on the thumbnails of the pages you want, or use the input box to specify ranges (e.g., "1-3, 5").
- Adjust Settings (Optional): Add a prefix or suffix for the output filenames.
- Convert: Click the "Convert" or "Extract" button to start the process.
- Download: Download your generated BMP files individually or all at once in a ZIP archive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the BMP files so large?
BMP is an uncompressed image format. This means it stores color data for every single pixel in the image without any compression, which results in very large file sizes compared to formats like JPG, PNG, or WebP. The benefit is maximum image quality with no data loss.
Do BMP files support transparency?
No, the standard BMP format does not support transparency. If your PDF page has a transparent background, it will be converted with a solid white background in the final BMP file.
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. All processing, including PDF parsing, page rendering, and image extraction, is performed directly in your web browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your computer, ensuring complete privacy and security.
What is the difference between converting a page and extracting an image?
Converting a page creates a "screenshot" of the entire page, including text, graphics, and layout, into a single BMP. Extracting an image pulls out the original image file (like a photo) that was placed inside the PDF, often preserving its original quality and dimensions before converting it to BMP.
